The first outstanding engineer to use cast iron to any extent, Smeaton made use of it in the construction of windmills, water wheels and pumps. The work is devoted to experiments on undershot water wheels, overshot wheels and on the construction and effects of windmills sails. The results of these experiments demonstrated the greater efficiency of overshot water wheels" (R&T). - Papierbedingt gering gebräunt und stellenweise leicht stockfleckig. Einband leicht berieben, sonst wohlerhalten. - DSB 12, 461; Roberts & Trent S. 297
