Erste Ausgabe dieses seltenen Werkes über den Geschützbau in der Übersetzung aus dem Griechischen von B. Baldi mit lateinisch-griechischem Paralleltext. - "Das Buch schildert: wie man vom Handbogen zunächst zur Armbrust (Gastraphete, Bauchspanner) gelangte, dann aber erkannte, daß die Biegungselastizität der Bogenarme übertroffen werden (wird) von der Torsionselastizität gedrehter Stränge" (Jähns). - "The 'Belopoiika' contains the description of the 'gastraphetes', or stomach bow, a sort of crossbow in which the bowstring is drawn by the archer's leaning his weight against the end of the stock, and two catapults worked by winches; two bundles of sinews provide the elastic power to propel the arrow, bolt or stone. The catapults are shaped like those described by Vitruvius and Phil" (DSB). - Titel mit Besitzvermerk von alter Hand. Vereinzelt leicht stockfleckig. Vorsätze etwas leimschattig.
