Erste Ausgabe dieser Ausbindung. - Bernard (1813-1878) war einer der glänzendsten Forscher auf dem Gebiet der Physiologie mit einer außerordentlichen Begabung als Experimentator und Beobachter. - "Important contributions to his field were in the study of metabolism. He showed that the digestive process in the stomach was but one of a chain, involving also the action of the pancreas and the intestinal juices in the breakdown of the three main food-types, protein, carbohydrate and fat.
