Réflexions sur la puissance motrice du feu et sur les machines propres a développer cette puissance.
Paris, Gauthier-Villars, 1878. - (27,5 x 21,5 cm). (6) 102 (1) S. Mit lithographiertem Porträt auf aufgewalztem China, 14 Textabbildungen und 1 Faksimile. Moderner Pappband im Stil der Zeit.
Zweite, erweiterte Ausgabe. "An earlier reprint (Paris 1878) also contains Hippolyte Carnot's biography of his brother and an abridged version of the MS notes" (DSB). In seiner einzigen, erstmals 1824 erschienenen Veröffentlichung nahm Carnot (1796-1832) grundlegende Gesetze der Thermodynamik vorweg. "Carnot's treatise on the motive power of heat, which contains the first (albeit imperfect) statement of the second law of thermodynamics, was written to address a practical engineering problem... namely how heat could be used most economically in the production of motive power... (Carnot) also introduced the fundamental thermodynamic concept of completeness of cycle, in which the engine and working substance return to their original conditions" (Norman). - Die ersten drei Blätter minimal knittrig. Ein Blatt mit kleinem Loch und geringem Wortverlust. Zwei Seiten im Falz gebräunt. Insgesamt sauberes, breitrandiges und wohlerhaltenes Exemplar. - DSB 3, 78; Poggendorff III, 238; vgl. PMM 285; Norman 404; Dibner 155; Roberts & Trent S. 63 (alle die EA von 1824)
