Rutherford, E(rnest).
The Capture and Loss of Electrons by alpha-Particles.

(London, Taylor & Francis), 1924. - (22,5 x 14,5 cm). SS. (277)-303. Original-Broschur. (Sonderdruck aus: Philosophical Magazine).

Erste Ausgabe. - Rutherford "referred to interesting experiments by G. H. Henderson, who fired in a high vacuum the alpha rays from a speck of radium through a small hole in a metal sheet and deflected them by a magnetic field. He obtained three bands on a photographic plate due to He++, He+, He; which is a shorthand way of stating the main band was due to helium atom less two electrons, the next to a helium atom less one electron, while at low velocities the third band indicated faintly a complete helium atom. Rutherford said that he had repeated and confirmed this results, using scintillations on a zinc sulphide screen. In effect, an alpha particle plays fast and loose with electrons when the opportunity occurs" (Eve: Rutherford). - Umschlag leicht bestoßen und mit kleinen Fehlstellen, sonst gut erhalten
