The over-all result - the probability of contact under general stated conditions, along with the possibility of optimizing the results by improving the methods of directing the search" (Abstract). - Koopman (1900-1981) studierte in Harvard bei Birkhoff Mathematik und wurde 1955 auf die renommierte Adrian-Professur an der Columbia University berufen. Er war Gründungsmitglied der Operations Research Society of America (ORSA) und deren Präsident von 1957-58.
