Erste Ausgabe. - "Dupin (1784-1873) was an outstanding pupil of the new generation and he graduated from the École Polytechnique in 1803.... In 1805 he was sent as a marine engineer, to the Ionian Islands where he was put in charge of the arsenal at Corfu. There he made his important investigations of the bending of wood beams (published in the above paper). Testing beams which are supported at the ends he finds that, up to a certain limit, the deflections are proportional to the load. Beyond this limit the deflections increase at a greater rate and, as he shows, the load deflection relation can be represented by a parabolic curve. Using different kinds of wood, he finds that their restistance to bending increases with their specific weight" (Timoshenko, History of strength of materials). - Vereinzelt gering gebräunt, sonst gut erhalten. - DSB IV, 257
