Erste Ausgabe. - Bailly (1736-1793), Präsident der Nationalversammlung und Bürgermeister von Paris, wurde durch die Berechnung der Umlaufbahn des Halleyschen Kometen im Jahre 1759 berühmt und studierte weiter die vier bekannten Jupitermonde. "Its argument for an antediluvean astronomy that prepared the way for the astronomers of recorded history brought him into conflict with Voltaire and resuted in the publication of his 'Lettres'" (DSB). - Mit gestochenem Exlibris. Vorsätze etwas leimschattig. Einband leicht berieben und bestoßen.
