"The fundamental ideas... is an attempt at a rigorous and systematic foundation of geometry... and of arithmetic, algebra and analysis... The huge work shows the critical spirit of a man who recognized, as did few of his contemporaries, many weaknesses in the mathematics of his day... the Tentamen is a most remarkable witness to the sharpness of his mind and to his perseverance. In many respects, he can be taken as a precursor of Gottlob Frege, Pasch, and Georg Cantor... but as with many pioneers, he did not enjoy the credit that accrued to those who followed him" (DSB). - Sehr sauberes Exemplar. - DSB II, 269
