"This year (1914) saw the publication by Rutherford and Andrade of a piece of work great beauty. When a beam of gamma rays from radium B and C impinged on a thin sheet of mica, those rays which struck the crystals of the mica at a suitable angle were enhanced in a certain direction and impoverished in another, so that a photographic film behind the mica appeared to be ruled with four bright lines forming a square, and with four dark lines forming another square. By measuring the deflection of the gamma rays it was possible to determine their wave lengths, which are comparable with those of X-rays, but usually shorter, though the range of values is large" (Eve, Rutherford). - Stempel auf Vorsatz. Einband stellenweise etwas berieben, sonst gut erhalten. - DSB 12, 25
