Erste französische Ausgabe von Flamsteeds monumentalem Sternatlas, in verkleinerter Form revidiert herausgegeben von Jean Nicolas Fortin. - "The 'Atlas Coelestis' (1729)... was the largest star atlas ever published, it contained more stars than the atlases of Bayer and Hevelius... it used a very detailed grid system, and its stellar positions were accurately based on Flamsteed's exceptional star catalog... (It) was the first major celestial atlas to use maps that emphasized the newer equatorial grid system that was centered on the projection of the Earth's equator into the sky... It is unclear why (Fortin) was commissioned to produce a revised edition of Flamsteed's atlas in France, but the enterprise was very successful... (It) was first published in 1776... and again in 1795.... Both used smaller re-engravings of Flamsteed's plates..." (Kanas). - Vereinzelt gering stockfleckig bzw. gebräunt. Zwei Karten im Bug leicht restauriert. Die letzten 6 Karten und der Text im oberen Rand mit kleinem braunen Fleck, der auf den letzten Textseiten etwas größer wird. Einband sorgsam restauriert.
