The magnet, naturally, is discussed in this connection, and reference is made to William Gilbert, who is called 'Magneticae Philosophiae facilè princeps,' and to his... Terella, which exhibited the magnetic virtue of the earth. Schwimmer (1638-1704) was Magister Philosophiae and rector of the Rudolstadt Gymnasium..."
